Decoding OTDR Event Types
Reflective Events: Sharp spikes caused by Fresnel reflections at connector interfaces, mechanical joints, or severed fiber ends.
Non-Reflective Events: Downward drops without a spike, representing fusion splices, macrobends, or tight cable clamping.
Gainers: Rare upward steps on a trace occurring when light passes from a fiber with a higher backscatter coefficient into one with a lower coefficient.
Mapping OTDR Distance to Physical Geographic Landmarks
Knowing that a break is at 3,240 meters along a cable is useless if you don't know where that corresponds to on the ground. By loading the cable's optical length and route geometry into CoreMap, the software translates optical meterage into an exact pole location and street address.
